Wrinkles? No thanks!

Who doesn’t want to look their best?  Most people who come to talk to me at Cosmetic Specialists have one goal in mind:  Make me look great!  For most people that means wrinkle reduction, anti-aging or sunspot correction.  The goal is to make the client look like themselves ten years ago.  Not many clients want to look altered or fake and I don’t want that either!  I love being able to accentuate someone’s natural beauty by reducing wrinkles, smoothing out someone’s completion and texture or firming skin tone to reveal healthy looking skin.  After being in the aesthetic industry for years, I’ve come to the conclusion that the best way to make these changes, without looking altered or fake, is through simple laser treatments that can be performed in our Lexington and London Kentucky offices.

The staff at Kentucky Dermatology and Cosmetic Specialists just returned from Chicago for an advanced laser course hosted by Sciton, which is the parent company for the most sought after laser treatments such as Skin Tyte II, BroadBand Light, Halo and DiVa Vaginal Therapy.  I felt fortunate to be a part of a company that encourages furthering the education of our providers.  This weekend was all about advancing our knowledge so that we are up to date on the most cutting edge science concerning laser technology and how to apply that knowledge to achieve our client’s goals.

The Sciton User Summit was amazing!  It’s not often that hundreds of laser professionals are in the same room sharing the best tips on getting the best results for our clients.  There is so much to learn, not only about how to get the results that we want, but also the best ways to achieve our goals in a safe way.  One thing everyone needs to consider before having any laser procedure is: Who is performing the service?  As laser treatments become more popular, more and more untrained users, such as pop-up medi-spas, are flooding the marketplace.  Laser treatments are great but they are also sophisticated and complex.  When choosing a laser treatment, it is so important to go to someone with experience and lots of advanced training so that the procedure will be performed in the most effective and safest way possible.  I feel so fortunate to be part of a company that not only encourages but demands furthering my education and training on a regular basis.

I know most of our patients are familiar with BroadBand Light (BBL) laser treatments for correction of brown sun spots and redness but did you know that having regular BBL treatments once or twice a year can also make your skin look younger and smoother for life?  It’s true!  Research has shown that regular BBL treatments can rejuvenate your skin on the cellular level.  Why is that important?  It was shown that when your skin is rejuvenated with BBL it delays long-term signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin in a natural way.

Throughout this experience, Sciton also expanded our knowledge on one of our newest lasers in our practice: DiVa Vaginal Therapy. I’m sure many of you have seen vaginal laser therapy on The Real Housewives or Keeping Up with the Kardashians and wondered what it was about.  Vaginal therapy is one of the most up and coming industries today.  Why?  Because women are finally focusing some attention on themselves instead of always giving every moment to their family, job and any of the thousands of other commitments they have each day.  Vaginal therapy is FOR YOU AND ONLY YOU!  DiVa Vaginal Therapy can help in several ways.  First of all, it can significantly correct vaginal laxity or looseness after childbirth.  It also helps with correcting vaginal dryness and painful intimate moments that some women experience pre and post menopause.  Lastly, DiVa can help with urinary incontinence.  I’ve had experience treating several people with DiVa Vaginal Therapy and can definitely say they have all had success with each of these issues.  Some say they feel like a brand new woman.  Another woman said she no longer had to keep tabs on the location of every bathroom in the vicinity.  That’s a big deal!
