Things to Know About Botox

Botox is everywhere today! Whether it be in Time Magazine, a commercial on TV, or even a close friend, Botox injections are the hot topic to talk about these days. Over the past 5 years, I’ve noticed that Botox is no longer only used by elite, high society women.  It’s a thing of the past for Botox to be expensive and unattainable to the average person. Nowadays, Botox is the go to wrinkle corrector for stay-at-home moms looking to devote some time into their own appearance, working women, millennials wanting to improve their selfie game, single women, men, professionals wanting to stay looking youthful and everyone else in between.  People are taking the time to invest in themselves and their appearance more than ever before.

I’ve been providing Botox services in Lexington, Kentucky for years now and have had Botox injected myself 5-6 times in the last 3 years.  I’ve always had a problem with wrinkles on my forehead when I raise my eyebrows or talk and I hate the frown lines in between my eyebrows that make me look angry.  Since using Botox, these wrinkles are no longer a problem. It’s amazing how they just vanish! Whenever I first had my first Botox treatment done, it was almost like I had the “first-date” jitters and I was anxious that all of my friends and family would know that I had something done or that I would have a frozen face. I was shocked to see that I could still make facial expressions and appeared completely natural with my Botox injections…  It was me, just without the wrinkles!  I don’t even think my husband noticed that anything was different, but I could tell definitely tell a big difference not only in photos but also that my angry face wasn’t as frightening anymore, which my daughter is probably appreciative of!

Here’s a glimpse of the significant difference Botox has made on my wrinkles:

Things to Know About Botox Injections

A very small needle is used to inject the Botox into the area of concern, which is typically the crow’s feet area or the frown lines in between your eyebrows. Although it feels like a small pinprick, the treatment is essentially pain-free! The treatment is very quick and can be done within your lunch hour. There is no downtime, so most of our patients don’t have to reschedule their day-to-day activities or take off of work.

Every once in a while a person getting Botox injections will have a small bruise or small amount of swelling in that area. Most people have no swelling or bruising, but it’s always a risk.  Swelling and bruising are very temporary, and if it does occur, will normally resolve in 1-7 days.

After injections, Botox begins to work in approximately 4 days but it takes up to 2 weeks to get the maximum effect.  Botox last for 3-6 months depending on how your body breaks down the product and depending on the strength of your facial muscles.

The great thing about getting Botox is that it can be tailored to your specific preference and needs. Whatever your reason may be for wanting to improve your appearance, Botox is a simple way to reduce wrinkles and frown lines in a safe and effective manner.
