The Secret to Removing Spider Veins

spider veins

The summer heat is quickly getting hotter, hemlines are getting shorter and it is the perfect time to show off your legs! However, many of us dread wearing bathing suits and shorts due to the insecurity of exposing our unsightly spider veins on our legs.  If your legs aren’t exactly summer ready, our experts know the secret to removing those leg veins… Sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy is a quick procedure that uses an injectable solution to directly target the spider veins (tiny purple and red blood vessels) on your legs. The needle is micro-sized and generally causes very little pain during the treatment. The solution that is injected into the affected veins causes them to turn white, then gradually fade away.

In most cases, over 50% to 70% of the treated veins will be gone permanently, although new veins may appear elsewhere and additional treatments may be needed later on. After the treatment is performed, our providers ask that you wear compression garments for the 2-3 days continuously and then for first two weeks during the daytime to help keep the veins closed and to reduce bruising. It is common for bruising can appear post-treatment. The results are seen almost instantaneously and, as you can see in the video below, they actually vanish!

Typically, the sclerotherapy treatments are very quick and only takes about 15-45 minutes. Each treatment time is tailored to each specific patient and is determined by the severity of the spider veins.  If you’re tired of hiding your legs all summer long, contact our leg vein professionals at Kentucky Dermatology and Cosmetic Specialists at (859) 276-2556 to schedule a complimentary consultation.
