Many women and men chose laser fat reduction treatments like CoolSculpting and SculpSure over liposuction. BUT WHY? The most common reason for choosing laser fat reduction is that patients do not want to be “put to sleep” and believe this alternative is less invasive than Liposuction.
At Kentucky Dermatology & Cosmetic Specialists, liposuction treatments are performed with no general anesthesia! Patients are awake and communicate with our medical professionals during their procedure. Liposuction is performed through a minimally invasive procedure that directly treats your problem areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. Tumescent liposuction is performed using what’s called tumescent fluid, which is a mixture made up of sterile saline sodium bicarbonate. The mixture also contains lidocaine, a numbing agent and epinephrine, a blood vessel constrictor. This combination increases the accuracy of fat removal while keeping the patient comfortable. Tumescent liposuction greatly reduces blood loss and again, does not require general anesthesia.
Following the procedure, the patient will wear a compression garment to control swelling and help the skin adapt. The patient is able to go home after surgery with minimal downtime. Rest is recommended immediately after surgery. However, the next day, you should feel well enough to drive or engage in light to moderate activates. Swelling and bruising is expected. Bruising will typically fade within 1-2 weeks.
Dr. Smith has been performing tumescent liposuction since 1995. His 23 years of expertise and experience are why our patients love their results and often come back for additional areas of liposuction. Some treatment areas include:

- Upper back/bra area
