Clifton Smith, MD founded Kentucky Dermatology as a solo practice in 1973. The company has had additional offices in Hazard, Whitesburg, Pikeville, Morehead, Versailles, Georgetown, Corbin, London and Richmond. Today, Kentucky Dermatology and Cosmetic Specialists has grown to a total of 8 providers. Clifton currently serves as the Medical Director.
Clifton grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky and earned his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He went on to attend the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed a straight medicine internship at the University of Kentucky and a dermatology residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
While he focused first on general dermatology, Clifton was keenly interested in skin cancer surgery and getting the best possible cosmetic result in excising and repairing skin cancers. For the last 20 years, he has earned extensive experience in cosmetic specialties, first specializing in liposuction and then in various laser procedures.
In his free time, Clifton enjoys traveling, music (both as a consumer and performer) and serving with various community groups involved in the arts. His love for music has recently led him to begin taking cello lessons.
