What are Cysts and where do they occur?
Cysts are common skin lesions that can occur on any area of the body and are normally benign (non-cancerous). Usually, they are closed-off pockets of tissue that can be filled with fluid, pus or other material. Often appearing as nodules just below the skin and are normally painless. Common areas for them to develop are on the scalp, back, and chest.
Occasionally they can become irritated, inflamed, or infected and then require treatment to provide relief. Treatment options for painful infected ones include antibiotic therapy and surgical excision. The dermatology professionals at Kentucky Dermatology can evaluate your skin and discuss treatment options.
